Bio

For only the second time in its fifty-nine year history, the representative from Mexico
walked away with the coveted Miss Universe title on August 23rd at Mandalay Bay
Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. A crowd favorite, the audience erupted when twenty-
two year old Ximena Navarrete's name was called as she was crowned Miss Universe
2010.

Navarrete was born in Guadalajara, Mexico and had lived there all of her life until
being tapped for the Mexico title, after which she moved to Mexico City to serve her
reign. Although Navarrete hails from one of the largest cities in Mexico, she describes
it as relatively calm compared to her new home in New York City.

Navarrete has worked as a model for years, but this beauty is much more than
a pretty face. While in school she received a scholastic award for obtaining high
honors and exemplifying outstanding behavior. She went on to study Nutrition
at Univa in Guadalajara, and plans to complete her degree after her reign.

Navarrete has dedicated much of her life to giving back to the community by working at
an orphanage for young girls, and providing food to families of the sick. She hopes that
her year as Miss Universe will provide many opportunities to help those less fortunate.

Looking forward, Navarrete plans to work at a medical clinic with patients suffering
from eating disorders, a step in breaking false beauty stereotypes and nutritional
ignorance that affects women all over the world. Navarrete comments on this point
saying, "Often times nutritionists focus on dieting and being skinny. I think it is
important to first be better on the inside, and second to focus on the outside. I hope as
a nutritionist I can help women to understand this."

When Navarrete manages to find free time in her busy schedule, she enjoys being
with nature, playing with her chihuahua, Mia, and taking boat rides on the beautiful
Lake Chapala. As Miss Universe, Navarrete will spend much of her time serving as
a spokeswoman for HIV/AIDS to increase awareness and boost funding for research.
